David Reekers
Rocky Mountains Region
.
David is a 5th generation Colorado native, born and raised in Salida, Colorado, where all five generations of his family have called home. Growing up in the heart of the Rockies, fishing has been part of his life for as long as he can remember. From spin fishing and fly fishing the local streams and lakes as a kid, to later discovering a passion for ice fishing, the outdoors has always been where he feels most at home.
While ice fishing has become David’s primary focus, he enjoys any opportunity to chase fish — whether it’s high mountain lakes, beaver ponds, open water reservoirs, streams, or even ocean fishing whenever he gets the chance. His favorite species to target include rainbow trout, brown trout, brook trout, lake trout (mackinaw), northern pike, perch, tiger muskie, cutbows, and kokanee salmon.
David spends much of his time fishing the South Park region of Central Colorado, especially 11 Mile Reservoir, Spinney Mountain Reservoir, and surrounding fisheries. Over the years, he has found success competing in multiple local ice fishing tournaments and continues to challenge himself as an angler season after season.
More than anything, David is a true outdoorsman who values conservation, protecting fisheries, and sharing the outdoors with others. He grew up fishing alongside his grandparents and now takes pride in mentoring the next generation of anglers — from friends and family to his nephew, great niece, and even his wife, who has grown into an accomplished angler through his encouragement and guidance. Whether he’s helping someone land their first fish or simply teaching respect for the outdoors, David believes the future of fishing starts by taking a kid fishing and passing the tradition on.
